2、 to make the best of, “充分利用”什么?
Supervisor Bill Postmus tried to make the best of it all in his invocation: “Thank you for taking us out of the difficult times that we've had in the past, Lord.”
原译：行政官员比尔•伯斯特默斯充分利用当前形势 在祷告中表示：“感谢你是我们走出曾经有过的艰难时期，上帝。”
改译：县管委会委员 比尔•伯斯特默斯在祷告中借机表示：“上帝，感谢你使我们摆脱过去的艰难时期。”
点评：原译的问题就出在对短语make the best of的理解上。没错，它的意思是“充分利用（时间、机会等）”，但并非“充分利用当前形势”，而是“充分利用祷告的机会”，故改为“借机”。
其他翻译要点：
1、supervisor：如果不了解这个人，很难决定是“行政官员”还是“县管委会委员”，可惜作者并没有说到这个词他是如何确定下来的。
